So i I just saw what turned out to be a volt on a lift, but from where I was standing I couldn't see the wheels, so it looked like some sort of Aztec revival. Needless to say I was freaked out a bit. Here is a recreation of what I thought I saw.

Am I the only one that thinks they would sell like hotcakes if GM made a Volt-powered Aztek? Obviously it would need updated design as well, but it was a pretty awesome utilitarian vehicle if it weren't for the truly awful styling.

The public never found out the truth behind the Volt's origins.
Sometime in 2010, Chevy engineers were desperate to come up with a car design to save themselves from destruction. They knew the technological specs, but Dan Akerson was in over his head.
He had retreated to the cave deep within GM, looking at failed Aerovettes, and the derelict of many a promising electric car. With a quickened pulse, his fingers touched upon a GM EV-1. Footfalls behind him, and he turned in shock to see Edward Whitacre in the same dark room as himself.
"All that technology, everything we fought for, it was all undone..." Dan said to Ed. "Any chances of fixing our environment, died with this. We bet it all on it. The market took the best of us, and tore him down. The people have lost hope."
"They won't." Ed muttered. It was then that it became obvious why Ed was here: Behind the EV-1 was a Pontiac Aztek, consigned to equal punishment as the failed electric car. It looked strange, as if it had been lowered on the EV-1's chassis.
"A DVD about our failure, the ugliest car on Breaking Bad . You can't sweep that under the rug!" Dan exclaimed.
"But Ford cannot win." Out of breath, Ed moved toward the Aztek, the revelation upon him. "You either die a hero, or your live long enough to see yourself become a villain.... I can do those things. I can be the reaper. I killed the Pontiac, to hide the truth. That's what I could be."
"No no, you can't." Dan replied, desperately moving forward. "You're not! "
"I'm whatever GM needs me to be!" Ed replied, moving closer. "The EV-1, under the Aztek's body... the Volt."
"No. If it goes wrong, they'll hunt you!"
"You'll hunt me, as GM. You'll condemn me. Set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen. Because sometimes, truth isn't good enough. Sometimes, people deserve more. Sometimes, people deserve to have their faith rewarded."
Ed took off into the dark. It was then that Bob Lutz found them, and shouted with boyish worry: "Ed? Ed!? Why is he running?"
"Because we have to chase him." Dan said, ruffling Bob's hair.
"He didn't do anything wrong."
"That's because he is a hero that GM deserves. But not the one we need right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian. A Watchful protector. A Dark Knight."

I have a Volt. I sure hope they are working on something Aztec-sized (but not an Aztek) with that drivetrain. The Volt is just a teensy bit too small for my taste, but otherwise completely amazing.
